About the Carmarthenshire Family Information Service

This service was originally set up in 2003 as one of the 22 Children’s Information Service’s across Wales, to provide information, advice and guidance on childcare to parents and prospective parents in their County.

In 2008 the service was renamed nationally as the Family Information Service or FIS. New duties have been given to local authorities across Wales by the Welsh Assembly Government to broaden the range of information and support they provide.

Family Information Service awarded

Carmarthenshire Family Information Service has received a national award in recognition of its work.

It has recently been awarded re-accreditation of the National Association of Family Information Services (NAFIS) Families First Quality Award.

It means that Carmarthenshire FIS has demonstrated that the County Council is meeting the statutory requirements of Section 27 of Childcare Act 2006 in full. It is also evidence of continuing a high quality service provided to parents and professionals throughout Carmarthenshire by the FIS team.

Executive board member for Children’s Services Cllr Keith Davies said: "Through achieving the award Carmarthenshire FIS shows it has accessible, accurate and quality information on services available to parents and families, this underpins all initiatives, services and projects supporting children, young people and parents."
